Ahead of Time- Juniper Green Energy Launches Massive 217 MWp Solar Facility

4 Min Read

Juniper Green Energy has comissioned a 217 MWp solar farm at Chapalgaon in Maharashtra, feeding clean power into the state grid under a long‑term agreement with MSEDCL. The plant came online in two quick steps: 146 MWp on May 22, 2025, and the remaining 71 MWp on June 23, 2025. This brought the entire capacity into service just four months after the Power Purchase Agreement was signed.

Remarkably, the Chapalgaon project finished 18 months ahead of its original schedule. Completing such a large plant so far in advance highlights Juniper’s strong planning, fast land acquisition, and seamless permitting processes. It also means Maharashtra can tap into nearly 1.2 million units of solar energy every day, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and cutting carbon emissions.

The work was carried out by Juniper Green Ray Two Private Limited, a subsidiary set up specifically for this project. Through this and other ventures, Juniper Green Energy has grown its total operational capacity to about 1.45 GWp across India since 2018. The company is now preparing for a ₹3,000 crore IPO, having filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus with SEBI, to fund further expansion in solar, wind, and hybrid power projects.

Technically, the Chapalgaon plant uses high‑efficiency PV modules and modern inverter systems to maximize energy yield. Its rapid ramp‑up shows that Juniper is able to coordinate equipment delivery and grid interconnection efficiently—an approach it plans to replicate in upcoming projects, including several hybrid solar‑wind schemes and stand‑alone wind farms already under development.

Here’s a glance at five of Juniper Green Energy’s most recent commissioning milestones, showing their growing footprint in solar and wind across India:

  1. 59 MWp Solar in Wardha, Maharashtra
As part of a 75 MW hybrid (solar + wind) project, Juniper brought the 59 MWp solar section online on June 6, 2025, a full 17 months ahead of schedule. This early delivery helps qualify the project for full ISTS transmission waivers and underlines Juniper’s expertise in hybrid installations.
  2. 100 MW Merchant Solar for Bhutan
On March 10, 2025, Juniper commissioned a 100 MW solar plant in Rajasthan that sells 50% of its output to Bhutan under a cross-border power purchase agreement. It marks Juniper’s entry into merchant solar and regional energy trading.
  3. 105 MW Jalkot Solar Project, Maharashtra
In April 2024, Juniper switched on its 105 MW Jalkot solar farm nearly nine months ahead of its scheduled commercial date. Backed by a 25-year PPA with MSEDCL, the plant generates around 200 MU annually, powering some 38,000 homes and cutting over 178,000 tCO₂ each year.
  4. 25.2 MW Wind (Phase 1 of 70 MW) in Gujarat
On April 16, 2024, Juniper commissioned the first 25.2 MW tranche of its 70 MW wind farm in Surendra Nagar, Gujarat—about nine months before the planned COD. Under its 25-year PPA with GUVNL at ₹2.90/kWh, this phase alone will supply roughly 230 MU yearly and offset over 213,000 tCO₂.
  5. 70 MW Gujarat Wind Farm (Surendra Nagar)
The full 70 MW onshore wind farm in Surendra Nagar reached operational status in 2024, making Juniper Green Sigma Pvt. Ltd. a new player in Gujarat’s wind sector and boosting local renewable capacity by over 230 MU per year.

This Chapalgaon commissioning comes at a time when India’s solar capacity has just crossed 100 GW, underlining the country’s drive toward a cleaner energy mix. By delivering projects early and maintaining high performance, Juniper not only strengthens Maharashtra’s renewable portfolio but also sets a benchmark for other developers aiming to support India’s net‑zero goals.
